2-2. that was the best the rays could come up with in their 4 game home series at home against the rangers.cleveland has now caught up with these 2 teams in the fight for the 2 final wildcard playoff spots.the worst part about all this is if you do take a wildcard spot, there is only 1 game played, winner takes all,and advances to the 5 game playoff for division title.that being said, if the rays do make the cut, its a 50-50 shot, with them being on the lower 50. game 1 went well, as alex cobb (9-3) went 8 innings with 10 k`s and gave up just 6 hits and 1 walk.the rays had 12 hits, wit ben zobrist ,wil myers and evan longoria accounting for 7 of those and 5 of the 6 runs.desmond Jennings let a ball go under his mitt for a double by rays killer ian kinsler.game 2 saw Jeremy hellickson look bad again as he gave up 5 rune in 2.2 innings, putting the rays in a early hole, and when your team isn`t hitting well ,things look bad when that happens.the rays used 6 relievers to finish this game out. game 3 saw a flip flop by the rays as again starting pitching set the mode as chris archer went 6 innings in a no decision but held texas to just 2 runs.the rays caught a break and capitalized on it in the 6th when the rangers 2nd baseman botched a throw to first to blow a double play, and sean rodriguez came through with a 2 run dinger.this game I give major credit to the relievers as they , again 6 of them, held the rangers scoreless.tampa came up with the win in the 12th with basic 101 baseball.it started with a walk to matt joyce, a pinch runner for him, sam fuld, who promptly stole 2nd base and a game winning single up the middle by desmond Jennings. you would think momentum would carry over to the 4th game, but alas ,the starting pitching again faltered.matt moore(15-4), gives up 6 runs , 5 earned in 4 innings. there were 3 solo homers in the 3rd inning by texas, as again this one is done early, as the rays don`t play catchup too well.tampa had 7 hits in this game and left 15 men on base...............the rays were given 11 free passes(walks) in this series.......junel escobar ran through a stop sign given by the 3rd base coach in game 1, got thrown out at the plate,but was not disciplined. wil myers in game 3, went la de da on a throw in to the infield on a base hit, which in turn scored a run for texas, was sat down in the 4th game for this.inconsistent coach,as my wife would say. I believe junel should of been sat down right there, but nothing came of it.............rookie tim beckham got his first professional base hit in Thursdays 8-2 loss........the rays have had 6 winning seasons in a row, congrats.........also, Wednesdays 4-3 walkoff win was the rays 11th this year, tying boston for the lead in this accomplishment......matt joyce is 2 for 33 at the plate for September, yet he still bats 3rd, 4th or 5th, explain that one coach maddon............pitcher jake odorizzi will be called up for the rays, hopefully to take hellicksons spot in the rotation.......the rays hit into 6 double plays in this series, ridiculus........got 9 games left fellas, starting tonight with 3 at home against Baltimore, who is just behind the rays trying to get that last wildcard spot.... the rays other 2 remaining opponents , ,New York and Toronto end on the road, with 3 games at both venues......david price (8-8) will start the game tonight...gotta laugh as coach joe maddon says the rays mental game is off.think I`ve been saying that for a month now.........Go rays,as we say in bowling, run the sheet, finish strong.
