2 Co 8:12-“For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted - TopicsExpress

2 Co 8:12-“For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.” Surely another element that is needed in our walk in to this new year is a Willing Mind. Without it, there won’t be anything done that is meaningful or substantial. The context is Paul is seeking to collect a missions offering. He is saying that God accepts what comes from our hearts. Paul additionally exclaims in 2 Cor. 9:7 that “God loves a cheerful giver.” So nothing worthwhile can be done for God without a wiling mind. Albert Barnes adds-“… a disposition to give; if the heart is in it, then the offering will be acceptable to God, whether you be able to give much or little. A willing mind is the first consideration. No donation, however large, can be acceptable where that does not exist; none, however small, can be otherwise than acceptable where that is found. This had relation as used by Paul to the duty of almsgiving; but the principle is as applicable to everything in the way of duty. A willing mind is the first and main thing. it is that which God chiefly desires, and that without which everything else will be offensive, hypocritical, and vain…” So the question for all of us from this passage is “what am I willing to do for God?” And what am I “cheerful” about in my service to the Lord? Here is another key thought. Sometimes we put ourselves down and say we cannot give or do like someone else or various others. That is not the issue. It is rather are we willing to give, do, say, and act with what we have and with a joyful and cheerful heart? We have all been blessed much. Let us live and act out of that awareness! Thank you Lord!
