2 Corinthians 2: 9-11 For this is why I wrote, that I might test you and know whether you are obedient in everything. Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs. As we have just seen, there may come a time when we are called upon to call out someone we love and let them know that they are on the wrong path. But we must remember that this must be done in, and because of, love. Love must be present throughout and then reaffirmed. So why did Paul feel the need to bring this up at all? Paul knew good and well that, just as God has plans for us, the devil has plans for us too. Sometimes Satan will come at us blatantly, offering us things that we know are wrong. More often though, he will come at us using guile and wit, tempting us with things that seem harmless but, when taken to their conclusion, will lead to damnation. We think often that God is active in our lives, guiding us in the way we should go and helping to protect us from evil, and that is completely true. We must not forget, however, that Satan would love to be just as active. He would love to make you stumble and fall on your face. The sad truth is that, sometimes, he succeeds. But he cannot keep us down. We, like David can cry out, Arise, O Lord! Save me, O My God! (Psa 3:7) If we let Him, God will pick us up every time. ~Kevin Numbers 6:24-26 Romans 8:38-39
