2 Corinthians 9:12-15 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! The ministry Paul is speaking of here is that of generosity. He outlines that being generous both provides for the needs of the saints, and also causes people to glorify God because of their obedience in generosity. The NKJV says, “they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men”. Generosity is what I like to call a “faith catalyst”. Being generous has the potential to unlock measures of faith within people that God has already started. Prayers are produced, more obedience to the same ministry is produced, gratitude is produced, and the grace of God is revealed through generosity. Being generous isn’t just a good thing to do, it is a way to confess the gospel and share Jesus with brother and sister, and with the world.
