2. Does quantum mechanics explain, allow, or prove the existence of the soul and/or consciousness after death? A number of scientists – including, most notably, Dr. Robert Lanza of Wake Forest University - claim that quantum mechanics can be used to explain or prove the existence of a conscious mind after death. These claims are not taken seriously by the scientific community at large. Is it because mainstream scientists are stuffy old men in white lab coats with no imaginations? No. There is a profoundly simple reason for this skepticism. Very simple. Let me use an analogy. There is an organization – known as The Flat Earth Society – who claim they can use science to explain and/or prove that the Earth is flat. They even include quantum mechanics to show how science not only allows for the possibility that the Earth is flat, but proves it. But guess what? The Earth is not flat. It never has been flat, it is not now flat, and it is not likely to be flat anytime soon. So any attempt to use quantum mechanics to explain or allow for a flat Earth is nonsense because there is nothing to explain. Without evidence that the Earth is flat, such explanations are pointless. You need a flat Earth before you can explain a flat Earth. The same is true regarding the use of quantum mechanics to explain, prove, or allow for the existence of consciousness after death. There is no credible evidence that any person who has been dead for ten years, a hundred years, or a thousand years, is still thinking, speaking, or living a conscious existence. For example, there is no evidence that any person who has been dead for a hundred years still actively posts on Facebook, gives interviews to Barbara Walters, provides new video content on Youtube, or communicates, thinks, or creates in any way. Such existence has never been demonstrated. So until such a person is found, just like in the flat-Earth theory, there is nothing to explain or prove. All meaningful evidence concludes that the mind dies when the brain dies. Until a dead person begins to demonstrate their existence by twerking during the Super Bowl or creating op-eds for the New York Times, quantum explanations are of no use. There is nothing to explain. It is flat-Earth theory for the mind. ~The Stan™
