2 Excerpts from foxnews/politics/2014/06/30/supreme-court-hobby-lobby/ 1. Democratic leaders blasted the courts decision on Monday, with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid tweeting: Its time that five men on the Supreme Court stop deciding what happens to women. --- Sounds like a threat. So can we say the same things every time the 4 liberals and 1 swing voter go liberal with a decision? 2. In a dissent she read aloud from the bench, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg called the decision potentially sweeping because it minimizes the governments interest in uniform compliance with laws affecting the workplace. And it discounts the disadvantages religion-based opt outs impose on others, in particular, employees who do not share their employers religious beliefs, Ginsburg said. --- What Id expect from a liberal. So if your corporation requires you wear clothes, that imposes a disadvantage on your religious beliefs as a nudist? So do business owners not have any rights about their own values and how they run their businesses? Do employees not have the freedom to go find a different job started by a different set of Americans who are more in line with their tastes? So Ginsburg says that religion-based opt-outs impose disadvantages on certain groups -- but turn that around, if those opt-outs were ignored, then it would disadvantage the OTHER side. So its a pointless argument. If a corporation refuses nudity, it disadvantages nudists! screams Ginsburg. So if a corporation then allows nudity, doesnt it disadvantage those who do not wish to have to see that? Of course, in the future, as we decline, this will flip: some day corporations will require everyone swearing allegiance to completely liberal / secular / amoral / immoral values -- but when the right or religious or conservative complain, at that point nobody will care. So there is probably no answer. You cannot corral a degrading society with laws; it will collapse no matter what you do. --the above comments were from a friend who sent me his thoughts on the decision today.
