2 July 2013 Press Statement by MCA Publicity Bureau Deputy Chief, Sdr Loh Seng Kok Urging PAS to boycott by-election shows irresponsibility & negligence DAP’s urging for PAS to boycott the Kuala Besut by-election only proves that Pakatan is acting solely for their own interest and not that of the nation or its people. DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng is predicting difficulty in winning since 98% of the electorate consists of Malays and as such, this battle is considered by him to be a lost cause for PAS but yet, DAP is not affected. This is the real reason why he is urging PAS to boycott the by-elections. Despite the fact that the 13th General Election is now over, Pakatan especially DAP still makes allegations of fraud and organizes Black rallies in an attempt to stir hatred towards the BN government. However, despite questioning the legitimacy of the BN government they unashamedly attended the Parliament’s and state Assemblies’ swearing-in ceremonies. This is pure hypocrisy on their part. I therefore challenge Guan Eng, in his capacity as the Penang Chief Minister, to openly state whether or not he will boycott any by-election held in Penang or any other elections involving DAP. Guan Eng and DAP may threaten to hold boycotts, but they cannot bring themselves to do so. While DAP may go around accusing the Election Commission of being biased against them and even pledging to boycott the Kuala Besut by-election whether or not PAS contests, DAP was the first to swear-in their own elected representatives in Penang. If PAS does heed DAP’s call to boycott the by-election and justifies their action in claiming that the EC is unfair, does this mean that they have to boycott Guan Eng’s position as Chief Minister too? Since they claim the EC is unfair, it is only fair if they refrain from taking part in any elections. To prove that they seriously believe their allegations of fraud, DAP should stand firm in their boycott and refrain from helping PAS to campaign for the Kuala Besut state seat or any other elections in the future. In doing so, it will also allow PAS to see the true face of DAP as a selfish, unreliable, irresponsible and hypocritical party.
