2 Lent Mon Mar 17 Lk 6: 26-38 GOLDEN RULE The passage is the source of what is known as the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would others do unto you. (Incidentally, the rule is not: Do to others before they do it to you!) But the Golden Rule as popularized is not totally faithful to the gospel teaching. The Golden Rule as we know it suggests that the model for what to do is what others do to you. But the gospel says that the model for what to do to others is what the Father does. Moreover, if you do not do as the Father does, the Father will get back at you! “For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.” But how generous is the Father who should be our model? He gives us “a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing.” Happy St. Patrick’ Day!
