2 Peter 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words - TopicsExpress

2 Peter 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. I think one can say without any fear of exaggeration, that back of every system of error is the sin of covetousness. Men seek to draw away disciples after themselves in order that they may make gain of them. If it were not for the money question one wonders how long many systems of error would survive! It is a sordid thing for one to seek to enrich oneself through the credulity of the souls whom they lead astray. Let me ask this question: If the money gospel were taken out of the Word of Faith teaching, how many people would be left? How many people follow this teaching, and support it handsomely with their money, simply because they think that this particular teaching is going to make them rich? If that lure were taken away, how many people would be left? It is my contention that there would be none left; so, this means that this teaching is very attractive, and because covetousness appeals to covetousness. In other words, the love of money in the hearts of these false teachers, appeal to the love of money in the hearts of their listeners; consequently, due to the fact, that this problem is acute in the hearts and lives of untold millions, and we speak of covetousness, such teaching has a ready following. Concerning this, Paul said: For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
