2 Timothy 1:13-14, Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. The apostle Paul was reminding his young pastor friend Timothy to guard the deposit of Christ in his life. He would need to do this through remaining faithful to the Scriptures and the sound teaching which flows from them. He would need to do this by living a Godly life. He would need to guard the deposit through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. I am always interested in watching those individuals who have been given the task to physically protect the President of the United States. These individuals were not chosen at random and then told what to do. They have been given a weapon and they have been trained how to use it. They are on the watch, especially for any person who appears as though they want to do harm. They are in constant communication with others so no one person has the opportunity to bring injury to the President. The same things are true in the life of a follower of Jesus Christ. We are responsible to guard those precious spiritual truths in our lives. We need to be trained (discipled) in what Jesus expects us to think, expects us to say, and expects us to live. We need to be on guard against the wicked schemes of the devil, who wants to destroy the reputation of God through destroying Gods people. We need to be in constant communication with the Lord through prayer. We need to be in constant communication with one another through times of spiritual and social fellowship.
