2 Timothy 2:15 is one of my all-time favorite scriptures. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” It begins by saying “do your best.” We are to work hard and do the very best we possibly can to achieve what we are instructed to do. The second element in this verse is that we are to present ourselves to God. This means we are on a deliberate mission of work and preparation; the end result of all of this effort is to present ourselves to the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the Creator of all. So this is serious business. We are to present ourselves as “one approved.” Approved of what? First of all, a worker for the King; a servant; one who carries out the mission that has been given to all disciples by The Son of God. Secondly, as a worker we should not be ashamed of who we are or how we have conducted ourselves. Our conduct should be one of Christian dignity and heavenly honor. Lastly, we are to present ourselves to our Lord as one who knows how and actually handles the word of truth properly. This is important. If we do not properly handle God’s Words, we will get off base theologically and thus experientially. Let’s not miss the mark of obedience to God’s Word. Let’s do our part in proper study and understanding of His Word. Let’s do our part….
