2 Timothy 3:1-7 “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away.” Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important.... Everyone has at least a little narcissism. At the relatively healthy end of the continuum are people who believe in themselves and their abilities, but don’t demand special privileges nor consider themselves above the social rules or norms. They can visualize themselves as one of the best or most accomplished in their field or profession, and they may be competitive but they don’t envy or begrudge others of their success. They may occasionally be shrewd in dealing with others but they don’t exploit people or take unfair advantage of others to achieve their own ends. Most importantly, they possess a good awareness of their own thoughts, feelings, and needs, and they also respect others and have a genuine care and concern for them. On the other end of the continuum, pathological narcissism is characterized by at least five of the following characteristics: 1. A need for constant attention and admiration, tend to brag because they have an insatiable hunger for love and approval 2. A sense of entitlement, think that rules dont apply to them 3. Interpersonally exploitative (i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends) 4. Lack of empathy (is unwilling or unable to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others), they are special are so self-absorbed that they have no empathy and dont care about other peoples feelings 5. Envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her, want people to admire them or want others to fear them 6. An arrogant and haughty behavior or attitude, are superior to others and deserve the best of everything 7. A preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love, want to to earn more praise and will bully, cheat and lie to get their own way 8. A belief that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people, cant endure any criticism without becoming defensive and retaliating Narcissists are very difficult to deal with because they have a false belief system with some or all of these characteristics. Narcissists are dangerous when their expectations are not met or their delusions of grandeur are challenged. Many narcissists are blind to their personality disorder and it will take an extreme intervention much higher than themselves or legal action to make them change their megalomaniacal behavior. In the end, God does bring down the proud. Of the seven things that God detests, Proverbs 6:16-17 lists haughty eyes first. God hates pride and arrogance. (Proverbs 8:13). God says that the proud will fall one day. We have to be careful that we dont fall with them by becoming angry and vengeful. In the end, we should feel compassion for these lost souls and pray for them as Jesus commanded. #ahem #batu_bato_sa_langit
