Posted by: jkpublishers Growl Class Workshop Learn more at JamesAndKenneth https://jamesandkenneth/store/show_by_tags/Events Dr. Ian Dunbar (PhD MRCVS BVetMed) will be giving a single-day growl class in Kenosha, WA at Wagin’ Tail Resort, 5403 52nd Street, Kenosha WI 53144 on Saturday June 28th from 9:30am – 5:30pm You can register as an Observer, or you can register as a Handler and bring your dog. Handler spots are limited and sure to run out quickly though. This workshop is intended for dogs that are reactive and have been involved in one or more fights but have never physically injured another dog. A dogs first adolescent fight often marks the beginning of the end of its socialization with other dogs. Now were in a vicious circle: the less the dog is socialized, the more likely he is to fight. Consequently, the owner is less likely to give the dog opportunities to socialize and so, the dog becomes even less socialized. The dog (and owner) take a massive plunge in terms of quality of doggy life. It is unlikely that the dog will be taken to dog parks, or let off leash to romp and soon, the dog is unlikely to be walked at all. Trying to resolve the problem in the course of everyday life is extremely time-consuming, relatively ineffective and simply not fair to other unsuspecting dogs and their owners. The rehabilitation of fearful and/or aggressive dogs is often constrained because: 1. Punishment, or more usually aversive NON-punishment, usually exacerbates the problem, i.e., negative classical conditioning and 2. Most reward-based traditional classical conditioning routines take forever - often exceeding the time or money that owners are willing to spend. Recently though, new techniques have been developed to accelerate and maximize classical conditioning, progressive desensitization and ultimately, re-socialization. Whether working with a single dog, or in a group Growl Class setting, the classical conditioning and training procedures need to be set-up, so that the stimulus dogs and handlers are always under our direction.
