2-day Kissan Mela-cum-Horticulture expo takes off in Doda DODA, SEPTEMBER 26: Horticulture Development Department today organized a Kissan Mela-cum- Horticulture Expo here at Town Hall as a part of its measures to promote fruit growing culture and other allied activities in the District. The programme was inaugurated by the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Doda, G. N Balwan who was Chief Guest on the occasion, while Assistant Development Commissioner, Mr. Anil Koul was guest of honour. The Chief Horticulture Officer, Doda, Scientists from SKUAST Bhaderwah, Sarpanches, Panches, Orchardists, fruit growers and people besides various senior officers of District administration and Horticulture department were present at the inaugural function. During the Kissan Mela different varieties of fruits were displayed by the fruit growers/ orchardists of different blocks of the District, besides high yield variety potted plants, tools and implements were also put on display on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, ADDC said that the district has huge horticulture potential as most of the population lives in hilly and rural areas which is suitable for the cultivation and growing of fruit plants. He asked the fruit farmers of the District to adopt a scientific approach and plant high yield varieties of fruits for better economic benefits. He said that development of Horticulture was the priority of the Government. He also said that Horticulture Development Department has launched various schemes to boost Horticulture activities in the region. He said all sort of assistance and technical guidance is being provided to the fruit growers in the District to establish orchards. He asked them to avail benefits of various schemes initiated by the Department for the benefit of the fruit growers in the District. Chief Horticulture Officer Doda, apprised the gathering about various state and centrally sponsored schemes. He said that subsidy, technical, technological and financial assistance is being provided to the interested farmers to build their orchards.
