2 hour live chat with LG to find out why our new Smart TV only - TopicsExpress

2 hour live chat with LG to find out why our new Smart TV only pauses for 10mins and then resumes playback, which in my eyes defeats the point of the pause function, and also how to watch 1 channel and record another. They tell me the pause depends on the size of the external HDD but cant tell me what size HDD would give me a longer than 10min pause, but it is capable of pausing for up to an hour?!?! And apparently Watch and record doesnt mean watch 1 channel and record another, it means (and I quote) You can record the program that you are recording... Even though on their website (admittedly not the UK one because that had no info about this at all) they state that Watch and record means you can watch 1 channel and record another... If youve got some free time, heres the full chat transcript... Chat Transcript 11:42:30 AM [LG TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support] Good morning youre through to Dean. Following this chat there is a short survey that will allow you to rate me personally today and the service I have provided. We appreciate all feedback given. How can I help you today? 11:42:57 AM [co.uk] Hiya Dean, Ive not long had your 42LN575V smart TV and Im enjoying very much! But I do have some queries about the Time Machine II and its recording functions... 1/ The pause function seems to un-pause after a while, Im never there to see when it resumes play because Im doing something else hence why I paused the TV. Is there a time limit to the pause function? And can I pause for longer? 2/ How can I record one channel and watch another while its still recording? So heres the scenario... Im watching channel A and whilst flicking through the guide I see there is something good on ch B and ch C in a few minutes. I decide to schedule it to record ch B while I change over to ch C. Then a few moments later a message appears saying that a scheduled recording is about to start, do I want to continue? Well of course I do so I click yes, and the program on ch C resumes. Moments later again, the TV turns over automatically to ch B? Now Im recording that so I dont have to watch that channel, but now I cant go back to ch C without the recording stopping?? I thought the point of a recording feature was so you can go back and watch something rather than having to watch it at the time its on live? Im probably being stupid, so hopefully you can tell me an easy answer to this? 11:44:21 AM [co.uk] Feel free to email me back if that would be easier 11:46:40 AM [LG TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support] Hi Lea, I will need to look into the first query for you but the second query, it is not possible to record on channel whilst watching another as the TV itself only has a single tuner so you will be locked on to the recording channel until you stop it or the recording itself stops. 11:48:08 AM [co.uk] So does that also mean that the TV needs to be on for it to record? Or will it be able to record something Ive scheduled while Im away? 11:50:12 AM [LG TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support] The TV would need to be on to record. The Time Machine function is there as more of a convenience tool to pause live TV. The pause only lasts for upto an hour before it starts the program again. 11:51:55 AM [co.uk] The pause lasts a lot less than that. Ill pause the tv, and come back in 15mins and itll be playing again? 11:53:54 AM [LG TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support] What size hard drive are you using? 11:54:05 AM [co.uk] 320GB 11:55:39 AM [LG TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support] Do you have a lot of recordings on there? 11:55:55 AM [co.uk] No, brand new tv, brand new HDD 11:58:40 AM [LG TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support] I see. Normally the threshold for the live TV is also down the capacity of the hard drive. This also happens with my Sky + box as well, the more I fill the hard drive the less time it will pause for as the space is not there. 12:00:23 PM [co.uk] But its empty? 12:01:17 PM [LG TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support] If you was to use a bigger hard drive then the live pause may be longer. 12:05:24 PM [co.uk] may be longer? So basically if I want to record something the TV has to be on? If I schedule something for the middle of the night Ive got to switch the TV on 1st and go back to bed? And if I want to pause live tv Ive only got
