2 musical robots, or the pre-daft punk period which created Daft Punk darlin The pre-daft punk period is symbolized by 3 teenagers aged from 16 to 17, called Darlin’. Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Laurent Brancowitz put Darlin’ to work by releasing an Indie rock record in a filled Grunge/Nirvana wave. It’s this records which made them have the surname of Daft Punk like a journalist from Melody Maker called them. Their first demo “Cindy So Loud” contains a treble voice, with a saturated guitar, far from the second one: the track which name’s the same as the group’s one has a dynamic rhythm and a fast instrumental line, creating an unstructured dimension. Their EP knew a serie of 1500 copies, and Darlin’ assured only 2 live shows, in June the 20th and 21st, 1992. The growing interest that Thomas and Guy-Manuel had for electronic music caused the departure of Laurent for the Phoenix group. This is how the end created the beginning… daftpunk-set We’re in 1993 and this is when Thomas and Guy-Manuel are in a rave party at the Eurodisney park, and they meet the managers of the Scottish Soma label. It’s Thomas who presented to Stuart MacMillan (co-founder of Soma Quality Recordings and member of the Slam duo, with Orde Meikle) a rush of their work under Daft Punk. And this is how Soma’s satisfaction leads to their first single ‘The New Wave’. daft-charles Then, Daniel Bangalter takes care to give Daft Punk a certain basis of knowledge: “He helped us in the way that he spoke to us about the state of the record industry. Knowing this, we could then take decisions following the results we wanted”. A year later, in 1994, Daft Punk releases its first four-tracked EP on Soma: The New Wave. Another year after, things go as fast as they should, their most significant EP ‘Da Funk’ is out. In the meantime they’re spotted by Virgin, which they choose rather than another offering label. In 1996 Daft Punk releases the second single (after The New Wave) on Virgin, where features this time their track “Musique”. It’s on Source, one of Virgin’s techno label compilation that Musique is edited. Source is then the fist label to publish Daft Punk in France. Subsequently, the track was released for a compilation of the Sony game ‘Wipeout 2097‘, alongside ‘The Prodigy’, ‘The Chemical Brothers’, ‘Underworld’, ‘Orbital’, ‘Photek’ … daftpunk-discovery It’s on January the 7th 1997, after their EP Da Funk, that Daft Punk releases the first album: Homework. Daniel Bangalter (aka Daniel Vangarde) was credited and thanked for his collaboration on this album… This biography’s goal isn’t to recount each album’s period, but is sensed around the unity, fraternity and passion that the 2 robots have offered one another from the beginning until now, which determined their musical lifestyle and which set ablaze the planet throughout a totally outstanding know-how in communication and composition. They 2 robots also composed a Original Soundtrack for a movie, after their 2 most recent album studios: Discovery & Human After All. This movie is the visual impacting Tron: Legacy, where Daft Punk supervised the whole composition with Joseph Trapanese’s 85 instruments orchestra, for a magnificent result of 24 tracks. daft-fusion In 2012 was said from the Tsugi magazine that a track Daft Punk composed would be listed in a compilation. This is the Renoma Street case which will have known another Dantesque buzz, like every time the duo is linked to an information. It’s on March the 4th 2013 that the French Television (more precisely Canal+) showed a new track’s trailer of their next album at about 8:05PM. The trailed had been previously diffused during the Saturday Night Live, an American TV channel on March the 2nd 2013. daftpunk-new Also confirmed as these words are written, it’s on Columbia (Sony) that Daft Punk will release the new album ‘Random Access Memories‘! To know more about this album, the guitarist Nile Rodgers has collaborated with the robots on ‘Tell Us Nothing‘ (the promo trailer’s music), the author and composer Paul Williams has sang for a track named Touch, the electronic music composer Giorgio Moroder talked about a 3 mics recording for a track, maybe for an ‘Intro’ or ‘Endless’. The Bass Jazz and R’n’B (for Michael Jackson, Elton John and Whitney Houston) guitarist Nathan East played in the album, the great pianist Chilly Gonzales played piano for the group and the singer Panda Bear from the Animal Collective group has also sang for the album. Also Hip-Hop/RnB Prince named ‘Pharrell Williams‘ has participated to three tracks of RAM.
