2 wins, 4 draws and 7 goals as the FUFA Super League second round kicks off. By:Joseph,Chris and Deo The local league action came back into action on Friday with a number of games hosted at various venues in the country having been off for a period of close to two months. In the six games played on match day 16,Vipers FC registered one of the two wins of the day on the start of the second round of the FUFA Super League-FSL with a big statement to its critics when it over came a stubborn but struggling Proline FC at St.Mary’s S.S Kitende. It was a Cesar Okhuti goal in the 22nd minute off a loose ball pass from left back Nicholas Wadada that gave the Buikwe based side-now playing at Kitende because of the major renovation works going on at their stadium, a win over the bottom 5th placed side who ended the first round struggling with only 4 points above relegation, having managed only 15 points from 15 games played, an average of one point per game. The win for Edward Golola’s boys means that the side has completed a double over Proline. In the first round game at Lugogo, they beat them 3-1. This win cements Vipers’ position on top of the table with 32 points, a sign that the team might be ready and willing to take on the other big giants all the way to this year’s league honors, since by now, they have the most wins-9 in the league. In the other win, the biggest of the day, Masaka LC slipped to a 2-0 defeat to URA in Lugazi with Owen Kasule scoring both goals in the second half of the match that had seen URA fans lose patience over their team’s failure to kill off the game in the first half, having dominated it from the off set. The win for the revenue collectors earned them their 8th win of the season and a push to the second position on the log with 29 points above Sports Club Victoria University and KCCA FC who are out of the country for CAF Confederations Cup and CAF Champions League respectively. This was Masaka’s 9th lose of the season and heaps more pressure on the Masaka side who lie in the relegation zone with only 11 points. At the Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium, local traditional struggling giants SC Villa who finished the first round of the league in position seven-8, with 24 points, had to come from a goal down to force a 1-1 draw against new league entrants and impressive Soana FC. Soana took the lead in the dying minutes of the first half through veteran winger, Dan Wagaluka with Ronald Muganga responding for the Joogos in the second half. The draw elevates Richard Makumbi’s Soana to 5th position with 27 points while Villa maintains its 8th position with 25 points. At Wankulukuku, Bidco FC settled for a 1 all draw against Entebbe FC who come into the second round with the fight against relegation main on their agenda having finished the first round in 15th position with only two points above bottom placed CRO. Bidco scored through Godfrey Serubogo while the visitors’ score was from Crespo Asiiku. CRO FC failed to be impressive at home in Mbale against Kiira Young FC, with the match ending in a goalless draw. The draw takes Kiira to position four one point ahead of KCCA and affirms CRO in the bottom position with only seven points out of the 16 games played, thus looking more likely to fall back to the Big League next season. In the last game of the evening, army side Simba FC who finished the first round on a high with a 1-0 win against KCCA , didn’t live to the momentum as they left the stage in the first round having failed to score against 11th placed Bright Starts FC.The match ended 0-0 in Bombo. The league will now take a two weeks break to accommodate the Orange CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup return leg fixtures in Kampala , KCCA FC Vs El Merrick (Sudan) and SC Victoria University Vs CS Don Bosco (DR Congo)respectively; as well as the Uganda Cup.
