2 years ago today, I did something WAY beyond my comfort zone. I went to a Zumba Fitness class! It was terrifying. I only went because it was free and my hubby encouraged me to go with a friend. I had no more excuses. I must say, it was not my favourite experience. I thought I might pass out 15 minutes in, but there was no way I could leave in the middle of a class. I couldnt do any of the moves and wasnt familiar with the music. I was not going to go back. My friend tried a different instructors class a few nights later and convinced me to try again. After two more classes, I was hooked! Id begun to learn the music and the steps and it was starting to become more and more fun and less like hard work (I could almost make it through 30 minutes without feeling like I was going to faint). Six months later, there was a Zumba instructor training in Airdrie. I really wanted to go but completely chickened out. How could a chubby Mom of two become a Zumba instructor? Everyone there would likely be a fitness expert, a dancer or at least able to beautifully wear a pair of spandex pants without a sweater draped over her behind. I really regretted not taking the training. It was exciting to see that another one was scheduled for March of 2013! I quietly passed it by my hubby who encouraged me once again. I ignored my fears and registered! It was a great accomplishment for me. A year later, here I am teaching Zumba and Zumba Toning to anyone who will join me. Im so happy I went to that first class. So much good has come from it. The greatest reward has been my fitness level. I can go bike riding with my kids, play soccer with them, go skating. Our lives have been so enriched by me becoming more active and trying something new! You might never want to be a Zumba instructor, but I encourage you to try something new, something you have always wanted to do but for some reason have not tried yet. Give it a shot. It might change your life! And please share with me if you have done something. We can encourage each other!
