20/11/2014 A resident send us this info being shared via several social media groups. We want to share this with you because our Response Officers find and rescue so many lost pets. Please care for your pets and if possible have them tagged for easy identification. Soon its the silly season - hundreds and hundreds of dogs and cats will flood into shelters around the country. Their lives will be changed in the blink of an eye... because they are too often regarded as being expendable, replaceable. More than 1 000 000 companion animals are euthanized in our country every year. And the December/January holiday period contributes significantly to that staggering figure. The SPCAs and rescue organisations cannot cope with the volume and realistically do not have the space for them all. DO NOT ABANDON THOSE WHO CANNOT SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. They give their full loyalty and love, and deserve the same in return. If your pets will be in the care of someone else, make sure the care-giver/pet-sitter is RELIABLE, COMMITTED and DILLIGENT. Also, PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR PETS are MICROCHIPPED, AND wearing a COLLAR AND TAG. Do NOT let your best friend become a statistic this holiday season.
