20 years ago today, in a crowded room at St. Francis hospital in Peoria, my mother slipped away from us, quietly. Those she left behind were stunned by her sudden departure, myself included. 20 years is a long time. Long enough to almost forget the sound of her voice, her mannerisms, or the resemblance we shared. But it isnt long enough to forget the profound grief I felt on that day. Or the sadness I still feel 20 years later.
