200 PDP workers join BJP Poonch, August 21: Ahead of Assembly polls, two hundred ‘active’ workers of Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday joined Bhartiya Janata Party in border district of Jammu and Kashmir. The workers of the PDP at Mendhar Tehsil in the district joined the BJP in the presence of Haji Ali Muhammad Ilyas Khan and Showkat Hussain Khan. The PDP workers, who joined BJP, include Muhammad Rafiq, Abdul Rashid Manhas, Fareed Mir, Haji Mian Ali Khan, Advocate Nazki, Muhammad Younus Dar and others. While speaking on the occasion, Haji Ali Muhammad Ilyas Khan, who is a member of BJP’s National Executive Committee Minority Morcha, said the party would take up the issue of ST status with the centre. “We will also ask the centre to announce an employment package and the issue of compensation to the victims of cross-border shelling would also be taken,” he said. Khan also said that Showkat Hussain is the ‘best choice’ for the party from Mendhar in upcoming polls.
