2000 ELVIS VINYL RECORDS FOR SALE AT UK AUCTION Elvis fans will be ‘all shook up’ by a unique collection of about 2,000 records to be auctioned in Bury St Edmunds. The mint to near-mint vinyls span virtually all of The Kings back-catalogue from the 1950s to recent years and includes rare vinyl bootlegs - and will go under the hammer at Lacy Scott & Knight on Friday March 21. It was built up by former Stowupland High School teacher Bill Wood, who started collecting in the 1950s while growing up in Northern Ireland. Rarities include factory-fresh HMV records, the 1958 RCA Re-released singles originally issued on HMV, some Irish pressings with covers specific to individual shops in Ulster, 1st pressings of all Elvis records on (sometimes shortly before) the day of release bought from the Elvis Presley Record Club (including copies of rarely seen records such as Judy/Theres Always me in 1967), mono and living stereo Decca for RCA copies of the 1960s albums (when RCA opening its own pressing plant in Tyne & Wear, and introduced the Orange label. With only three or four exceptions, every pressing released in the UK can be found in the collection. Eddie Crichton, fine art manager at Lacy Scott said: “It’s an incredible collection. Most of our clients are collectors - people get the collecting bug and this is an example of the collecting bug like no other. He would go to incredible lengths - collecting tokens to get some of the records.” There will be 425 lots which could raise up to £20,000. Viewing is on Mar 20.
