2001 Expedition 4wd 4R70W rebuild: The owner of this truck complained of no forward gears. He removed the transmission himself. The transmission fluid was dark red and burned. Once apart, I found the direct clutch, forward clutch and reverse clutch badly burned. The Direct clutches are welded to the hub. The intermediate one way clutch was seized and would not turn either way. The metal sealing rings on the pump stator were worn and the stator was mildly scored. The tabs on the reverse drum that engage the sunshell are moderately grooved. For the rebuild, I will need to replace the direct clutch drum, forward clutch drum, reverse clutch drum, intermediate one way clutch and possibly the pump stator.
