2013 Belgian Grand Prix Qualifying What a session it was! This is the reason why Spa is so important for the F1 calender. This year again it was the expected, to have unexpected weather conditions. Q1 started under intermediate tyre conditions with only the Marussias and Caterhams gambling with slick tyres towards the final 7 minutes and what a gamble it was! 3 of them, van der Garde, Bianchi and Chilton made it to Q2 at the expense of the Torro Rossos who took a more conventional approach. Q2 had drying conditions so it was run on slicks and the Q3 regulars eased through in the improving track. Q3 was where the major drama happened. All drivers but for di Resta headed out on slicks only to find the track too slippery and headed straight back into the pits for a tyre change. Meanwhile, di Resta headed out on a clear track on inters under the most suitable conditions for the next 5 minutes. Expectedly, he was fastest and on provisional pole for 5 minutes. Then the rain stopped and Red Bulls and Mercs clocked amazing laps. It was the last man over the line who was the quickest, Hamilton to deprive Vettel of his finger. di Resta ended P5, disappointing for them but still a very good result. The real losers were the Ferraris who finished P9 and 10 who were also the first to finish their last laps. But as always, points are for tomorrow and anything can happening at Spa!
