2013 COMMUNITY PRAYER WALKS –- OUTLINE OF EVENTS FACT SHEET WHAT: COMMUNITY PRAYER WALKS and HIV Testing conducted Throughout Chicagoland in targeted neighborhoods WHEN: Saturday, June 22, 2013 WHY: To Kick Off National HIV Testing Day June 27, 2013 WHO: A collaboration (launched in 2012 by CMP, SHARP, WHARP, Emmaus Ministries) of groups, churches, resource providers, advocates, activists, individuals, touching and agreeing to offer prayers, provide HIV testing. LEAD: Chicago MICTAN Project (CMP), Southside HIV/AIDS Resource Providers (S.H.A.R.P.), Emmaus Ministries, Westside HIV/AIDS Regional Planning (W.H.A.R.P.), Bridging the Tys to Jordan, South Side Community Help Center (SSCHC), Christian Community Health, Chicago Black Methodists for Church Renewal (B.M.C.R), Heartland Alliance. SITES: Identified to date are: WHARP @ Greater Open Door M B Church; South Side Community Help Center @ 63rd and Vernon Vacant Lot; Bridging the Tys to Jordan @ 71st and Vincennes; Englewood United Methodist Church (UMC); Faith UMC (Dolton); Heartland Alliance; Holy Angels HIV/AIDS Ministry; St Anselm Faith Community with Greater Full Gospel Pentecostal; Ingleside-Whitfield UMC joined by Trinity UCC HIV/AIDS Ministry; Hartzell Memorial UMC; Alexian Brothers Bettendorf Place; Da Church House; et al t/b confirmed. TIME: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (at Site’s discretion) – Continental Breakfast, followed by Prayer Walk, return to site for activities, testing, hot dogs, entertainment, etc. PRAYERS: To focus on healing of HIV/AIDS and include burning issues in the immediate community areas, i.e., violence, children, families, schools, etc.; instructions/ training on conducting prayer walks available, upon request, from Sill Davis at Emmaus Ministries - Mireya Fouche, contact person. GOAL: To unite in an effort to address and pray for concerns impacting the African American community as well as draw attention to the importance of being aware, informed and knowledgeable about HIV/AIDS prevention and everyone getting tested to know their status.
