2013 Green Bay Packers week 2 Preview: Today the Green Bay Packers( 0-1 ) welcome the Washington Redskins( 0-1 ) to Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI. It will be the first time since October,14th 2007 at Lambeau Field when Brett Favre was still QB and DeShawn Wynn was our leading rusher when on that day the Packers squeaked out a 17-14 win over the Redskins. I think that today will be no different as far as who will win but I think the score will be much different. Even though the Packers offense struggled in the 1st half against the 49ers last week they seemed to get better as the game went on through the 2nd half and I think they will use the momentum of their 2nd half performance to not only come out fast with both the running and passing as they try to wear down the Redskins defense early in the game and also be able to score key 1st half TD’s too. It will all start with QB Aaron Rodgers has he looks to not so much rebound but get more comfortable in having precise timing with his WR’s and TE’s in passing downs and making key audibles throughout the game in hopes of confusing the Redskins defensive line today. Rodgers and well as the rest of the Packers offense will need to hang on to the ball and not let a costly turnover give the Redskins the advantage early in today’s game. It will be interesting to see how RB Eddie Lacy does in his Lambeau Field debut and although he struggled and had 1 fumble in last weekends game I think that McCarthy benching him tought him a lesson and once he came back in the game in the 2nd half he was able to find open holes with in the 49ers defense and also scored his 1st rushing touchdown. In today’s game I can easily see him possibly breaking the 100 yard mark in rushing and also have a better time against the Redskins defense as they ranked 30th in defense last year and didn’t have a great performance against the Eagles last Sunday Night. With the receiving core getting back up to speed I can see them exploiting the Redskins secondary with ease as their only big time player is CB DeAngelo Hall who will either be lined up against Randall Cobb or Jordy Nelson which could open up the passing game for both James Jones and Jermichael Finley in regards of key first downs and big plays down field. The Packers defense had a decent performance last weekend against the 49ers rushing game allowing only 90 yards total but were burned for over 400 yards in the passing game by way of Colin Kaepernick and Anquan Boldin but they didn’t have two of their best pass defenders on the field either in CB Casey Hayward and S Morgan Burnett but it will look like Burnett will be able to play in today’s game as he practice all be it a limited role all week where as Hayward still has a few weeks to go before he’s cleared to return to action. Clay Matthews was the talk early this week as in regards to his late hit on 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick last weekend as 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh called Matthews a dirty player which I don’t think he is and apparently neither does Matthews as in said ” I’m an awesome player not a dirty player “. Today will be a much similar test for the Packers defense as they will go up against the Redskins option type QB RG3( Robert Griffin III ) but I don’t see RG3 running a whole lot as he didn’t play at all during the Pre-Season and seemed a bit cautious during last weekends game against the Eagles especially in the passing department if the Packers can put pressure on RG3 early and often and make him a one-dimensional QB defense can just play in their base 3-4 defense and just smother the Redskins offense by causing turnovers. As for the Packers secondary if Burnett is ready to go today that changes how the defensive secondary will play the Redskins WR’s in the passing game. Game time set for 12pm on FOX. Also the weather calls for a massive rain storm during the game 70%. Go Pack Go!!!
