Perry | May 5, 2013, 5:00 pm According to a recent report on average starting salaries for the College Class of 2013 from the National Assocation of Colleges and Employers, the highest-paid major for this year’s college graduates are petroleum engineering majors, who are averaging starting salaries of $93,500. The overall average starting salary for all engineering graduates this year was $62,535, so the petroleum engineers are earning almost a 50% premium above their average engineering counterpart, and are starting at a salary more than twice the overall average of $44,928 for all college graduates in the Class of 2013. MP: Add petroleum engineering majors in the College Class of 2013 as another group in a very long list of beneficiaries of America’s shale revolution – they are earning starting salaries right out of college that are very likely higher than most of their college professors that helped them earn their degree.
