2013 SUMMER CAMPS & WORKSHOPS IN SPORTS & ARTS: 1) Saturday June 15 Recording Studio Workshop with Ray Fulber at Strait Sound Studio from 10 am – 3 pm for ages 10-17: Learn how to record a CD, create a remix and observe a live studio session with an established artist - fee $68 2) Sunday June 16 Stone Sculpting Workshop with Don Watson at Gibsons Rock’N Art Gallery from 10 am – 3 pm for ages 10-16: Learn how to draw your design and carve your very own piece out of soft stone! Fee $48 3) July 1-3 Band Camp with Ray Fulber at Strait Sound Studio from 10 am – 3 pm for teens ages 12-18 who are already in a band or wish to join or form a band with their instrument. All instruments welcome! A Grammy winner will even share her success story! Fee $129 4) July 8-10 Beach Volleyball Camp with national champion Rex Fenton at Sechelt Rotary Courts from 9 am – 4 pm for U13, U14, U15 and U16: High Performance Camp with Skills, Drills, Rallies, Water Games during breaks at Trail Bay Wharf and a fun tourney on last camp day! Fee $129 5) August 11-14 – Surf- and Stand Up Paddle Board Camp with 2013 national pro-surf champion Catherine Bruhwiler in Tofino for ages 10-16 beginners & intermediates: A small group of teens will travel with Spirit of Excellence staff to Tofino where we stay at Mackenzie Beach Resort. On August 12 students will learn Stand Up Paddle Boarding and on August 13 how to surf at the famous Bruhwiler Surf School. Free time will be spent on hikes, beach volleyball, swimming and beach games. Boards, paddles, life jackets and wet suits provided. More details will be provided upon registration. Early registration with signed waivers required to plan transportation and accommodation. 6) August 19-23 - Outrigger Canoe Camp from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm off Gibsons Marina with Ron Dickinson ages 11-17: Students will learn about paddling technique, native canoe culture & history, play beach games and explore local islands and wildlife. A youth club from Burnaby will visit the coast following the camp for a fun race on the weekend of August 31 and campers will be invited to join! Paddles and life jackets provided. Early registration and signed waivers mandatory to save a spot! Fee $179 7) August 24 – Field Trip to National Beach Volleyball Championships at Spanish Banks, Vancouver; Boys and girls who love volleyball are invited to travel with us to watch this fun sports event featuring the best beach volleyball players in the country!
