2013 Track Nationals – T-1 Day to Competition This year Track Nationals are located in Dieppe, NB, for the 2nd year in a row… same location as last year’s championships. I am another year more experienced and fitter and the track is another year more weathered. Lucky for us we will have the beautiful new Pan Am Velodrome in Milton to race on next year for our National Championships. We had a nice little training camp in London this past Friday and Saturday It was great preparation, and for building confidence going into the Championships, that start tomorrow. We packed all of the equipment in the trailer on Saturday after training. There were probably close to 75 bikes packed into that trailer! I traveled to NB in the Team Ontario Van, with 9 other people (6 other Athletes, and 3 staff). I left at 4am on Sunday morning to meet the van. We traveled straight to NB, stopping only for food, bathroom breaks and gas. We arrived late on Sunday night in NB. There was thought that we might have to stop part way and stay overnight, but we made it to our hotel to have a good sleep on Sunday night after the long day of traveling. Monday the rest of the team were arrived by various methods, train, flying, driving etc. We were scheduled for track training around 2:30, so departed for the track around noon, to unload the trailer, prepare track bikes to make the most of our track training time. However, just before 2 it started raining. We worked quickly to repack the trailer with track bikes, and then rode our road bikes back to the hotel, bringing rollers and trainers in the van/parents vehicles, so we could at least get in a short spin yesterday afternoon. The rain stopped, and we were allowed to get on the track at 5:30 yesterday, so at 4:30 we traveled back to the track, fighting rush hour traffic in downtown Moncton (which is REALLY BUSY). We had a good session, getting a feel for the track and practicing Team Pursuit exchanges. After riding back to the hotel we were greeted by a great dinner made by the Team Ontario Parents.
