2013 was so unspeakably terrible that I dont even speak of it. In 2014 I struggled to reconstruct a life for myself, even as the country around me dissolved into a nightmare. At the moment I dont see a rosy future for anyone. After 9/11 we all saw it - all of us marching in the streets in the biggest protests in human history saw it. We saw clearly a decade ago under Bush where this country was headed, and in retrospect we were exactly right - except that the reality of this devolution has turned out to be so much uglier than any of us imagined. My country today is engaged in ghoulish endless wars, killing and dispossessing tens of millions, and pursuing innumerable small and covert wars in every corner of the earth, with US troops parked in about 140 different countries. The longest war in American history, the incomprehensible war against the people of Afghanistan, rages on at a cost of over a TRILLION dollars so far. At the demand of Israel we have recklessly annihilated millions of muslims and criminally dismembered sovereign states in a vast 4,000 mile band from Libya to Iran. As the US-Israeli terror state expands, USA Today headlines report that 4 out of 5 Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck or in poverty, and in a gesture straight out of Kafka, our blood-drenched Nobel laureate President declares today that the still-ragining Afghan War is over, that the economy is better than ever, that we have won, and evil has been vanquished, and up is down. In the last week Obama has lobbed dire military warnings at North Korea and Venezuala and Syria and appears to be hell-bent (never was there a more appropriate deployment of this word) on starting World War III against a nuclear Russia. 2015 is upon us. Where do we go from here, as human beings, as citizens, as a planet?
