2014-05-22 A bright, sunny, warm Field Trip Day! Today Kinstone Academy of Applied Permaculture hosted 4th, 5th and 6th graders from a local school for a Permaculture Adventure. We learned about Permaculture and its three ethics: PEOPLE CARE, EARTH CARE, and FAIR SHARE (limits to consumption). We took some time to OBSERVE and then discussed what we saw, heard, felt, smelled and/or tasted. We toured the permaculture gardens, food forest, pond, tepee, yurt, and natural buildings. We got to put our hands in the mud that is used to make the straw-clay cabin plaster. We saw minnows, frogs and bugs in the pond with many birds dipping in to get drinks. We also saw an albino frog - for real!! We rescued an injured toad and found a home for it in the shade of a stone. Then we planted trees! Over 100 trees were put into the ground today and we got to put our names on flags by those we planted too! One day we will be able to return and perhaps find our tree. We had a picnic lunch and then we got to sit in the Kinstone Circle and walk the Labyrinth and see the Chapel too. The Chapel walls are so cool - we were able to find the sun, moon, wind, fire and stars…and a galaxy. We saw a tree and flowers and a dragonfly too. Some kid quotes from the day: This place is so cool!, Can we come back?, Can I have a hug?, I love ponds and animals and all kinds of wildlife., Can this be my tree?, I am a cartographer - and I can read this map!, and perhaps the very best quote: Thank you for putting this here and doing this - I love this! Such a wonderfully fulfilling time for all of us.
