2014-15 National League Preview | Under-14 Girls Red •Michigan Hawks 01 (MI) •OFC 01 Phillips (OK) •BRYC 00 Elite (VA) •South Shore Select Elite (MA) •Premier Strikers (MD) •CUP Gold 00/01 (OH-S) •United FA 01 Premier (GA) •Legends FC 00 (CA-S) The players in the Under-14 Girls age group are set to get their first taste of US Youth Soccer National League competition in the 2014-15 season. The field of teams includes three of the teams that competed for the US Youth Soccer National Championship in Germantown, Md., as well as several other talented squads. A team to watch in the Red Division will be the Michigan Hawks 01 (MI), who gained valuable experience last season during their run to the final match at Nationals. Lilian Lucas, who received the Golden Ball in Germantown and led the age group with four goals, leads the Michigan side’s attack as it looks to build of its National runner-up finish. “Having lost in the final last year prepares us a little bit to do well,” Hawks coach Michele Krzisnik said. “I think the girls are ready and excited to compete and battle again and be in the running for it. It takes a little bit of everything to have success in the National League — a little bit of luck, a lot of dedication in terms of having the right players with talent and ability and staying healthy.” Another team that could make some noise in the Red Division is Legends FC 00 (CA-S), which comes from a club that has combined for a record five National League division titles. The Under-14 Legends side took eventual National Champion Surf Academy I (CA-S) down to the wire in the 2014 US Youth Soccer Cal South National Cup — falling 2-1 via a penalty kick shootout. Meanwhile, South Shore Select Elite (MA) could make a run at the Red Division title after showing it could win tight games during its run to the US Youth Soccer Region I Championship. Fellow Region I side Premier Strikers (MD) has shown the ability to succeed in league formats — going 6-1-2 in the US Youth Soccer Region I Premier League — and U.S. Under-14 Girls National Team goalkeeper Alyssa Minnick could make it difficult for National League opponents to find the back of the net.
