We will not release students to parents at that time. If you arrive to get your child once lock down has begun you will not be able to get your child because all doors will be locked. You can however stay at the Junior High Basement with your child if you arrive before the lock down. Please be aware of this procedure and know that will be updating you consistently during an event such as a lock down or bad weather evacuation via email and our automated system. Students will also be able to use their phones to contact you as well with updates. We understand that lock down and bad weather evacuations can be a stressful time but please follow our procedures to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We want to be able to maintain calm conditions and not add to the stress of the situation. I appreciate your cooperation and consideration. • Lunch Detention for Library Fines and overdue materials starts October 1, 2014. Students have a week grace period before getting lunch detention. • Please make sure Mrs. Bassett our PEIMS secretary has all your registration forms and information correct. Our goal is for every student to earn an EPIC t-shirt by the end of the school year! Bowie Junior High will begin this program late October or Early November. One of the initiatives this year at Bowie Junior High School will be our participation in the Watch DOGS program. Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) is a father involvement initiative of the National Center for Fathering. Who are Watch DOGS? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the principal. We will be having a conference call meeting with the national office on Tuesday and we’ll be launching the program in late October or early November. Look for more information in the weeks to come. Principal’s Message for the Week The second week of school ended very well with students receiving iPads. If a student did not receive their iPad it was typically due to missing paperwork. As soon as the paperwork is turned in then they will be able to receive their iPad. We are excited for the students to be able to utilize technology in a learning environment that will help prepare them for the future. BJH plans on having more information coming to parents in the next few weeks regarding use of technology devices at school. Please stay tuned for more information on that! Our first school dance was a complete success! Many students turned out to dance and have fun with friends. We are thankful to our cheerleaders, their sponsor Mrs. Kutie, and all the parents and teachers that attended to help chaperone. Have a great weekend! Go Jackrabbits!
