What: The Facts: The Volleyball Canada Centre of Excellence programs – PEI location is designed specifically for PEI. • This program is designed to help prepare high performance athletes serious about the sport of volleyball who are looking to move on to Post Secondary teams and pursue their volleyball career. • The Centre targets the Train to Train (grade 8-9) and Learn to Compete (grade 10-12) stages of athlete development. • Training is primarily based around skill development and low intensity repetitions. This means that 1 coach will never be working with more than 6-8 athletes at one time, allowing for lots of personal feedback and progress. • On-Court Training commitments include: one (2 hr) on-court training session per week during the duration of the program. These times will be held at UPEI and Three Oaks Senior High School on Sundays from 2-4pm. Off-court training includes 30 hours of training. • The On-court Program will run for a 16 week sessions. It will begin on November 16th, break for the holiday season in December, resume in January and run until the end of March. This session will fill the training “gap” that currently exists between the end of the PEISAA season and the start of our spring league program. • Off-Court Training: The Volleyball Canada – Centre of Excellence program includes a number of other features that complement High Performance development. Physical assessments, video analysis, testing and weight training, nutrition, and mental training to name a few. The off-court training will begin in November and will continue through the end of July. This will tie in nicely with our provincial team training program. Each individual’s off-court training schedule will be determined by the coaches, the individual, and the specialists at Synergy Fitness & Nutrition. • Athletes receive Volleyball Canada – Centre of Excellence training attire. • Coaching Staff: The Volleyball Canada – Centre of Excellence coaching staff are paid, professional coaches, many of which coach at and have associations with local College and University teams. They understand what it takes to play at the next level and what you need to do to be successful. Program Highlights: •Lots of Individual attention with a very low athlete to coach ratio.
