2014 Confab:The no go areas order has confirmed the position of skeptics The major problem confronting Nigeria is the question of citizenship and how to address the disjointed existence of nationalities into a united country. Can this problem be resolved in a confab without a thorough appraisal of the foundation of our existence as a country? The major reason I laughed off the idea of a confab has remained my belief that the present administration lacked the required political biceps to drive any meaningful process that will address our problems as a nation. What is the purpose of gathering ethnic nationalities if they are barred from discussing the conditions of their existence? For the record, I am a nationalist and will do everything to ensure that Nigeria remains indivisible. However, that indivisibility must be anchored on the determination of the constituent nationalities to remain together. A constitution confab is a give and take assembly in which different interest groups negotiate their terms of existence. My view is that after agreements and understandings are reached in such confabs, the constituent nationalities are then mandated to sign an article of perpetual union that guarantees the indivisibility of the country. The present exercise is a charade designed to keep Nigerians busy while the present maladministration continues unabated. It is still not late for the Federal Government to cancel the charade and focus on delivering democratic dividends to the masses.
