2014 FMM Pitbull Awareness Group – what our survey found: The Fort McMurray Pitbull Awareness Group would like to thank everyone who came out to our 2014 Pitbull Fun Day on September 28, 2014 and filled out our survey – the results are in and here are the highlights of what you told us………… 89% of respondents knew what the letters BSL stand for and 78% knew what it is a result of (if you are still unsure, check out our 2014 Awareness video https://youtube/watch?v=ABab5iC8ZTM). We were super happy to see that 95% of respondents knew what our group is all about even though only 65% were members of our FB page – this means that our advocacy work is travelling by word of mouth – thanks to you!!! We sure hope that the 35% who were not members back in September are reading this now – WELCOME TO THE FORT MCMURRAY MOVEMENT!!! And thank you to our long time members – 51% heard about the 2014 Pitbull Fun Day on social media (like this page) but a whopping 41% heard about the event from friends (i.e. YOU!!!). We told you that we wanted to be more engaging and asked what you would like to see. Here is what you told us: 68% would like to see activities for you and your pitbull such as walks, playdates, training/agility/service dog clinics, etc. 62% would like us to share educational information such as care, feeding and training links and articles. 59% would like us to support or put on fundraising events to help pitbulls in need such as auctions, pubnights and pledge walks. 38% would like to see information on pitbull advocacy such as BSL, current issues and petitions to support. You told us that in return you would like to be engaged in the group through: Attending activities and events (73%) Volunteering (62%) Attending fundraising events (46%) Donating (38%) Advocacy/being a voice for pitbulls (32%) Fundraising (16%) Because of the overwhelming responses we received to be more informed and active the FMM Pitbull Awareness Group intends to deliver to engage both you and your dogs. Finally, we asked about pitbull rescue as well as if and how you would like be involved. We were absolutely amazed by the response………. 59% indicated that they would volunteer in rescue efforts 57% indicated that they would donate to pitbull rescue 22% offered to provide foster homes to rescued pitbulls (this is a dire need in our community!) 22% offered to help transport rescue dogs 19% indicated that they would help in training pitbull rescues and 16% said that they would adopt a rescue pitbull Given these survey results it is apparent that we have an active, caring pitbull community and strong support from the community at large (51% of our respondents did not own a pitbull or pitbull-cross themselves). With these results in hand, the FMM Pitbull Awareness Group is planning to continue to build awareness through advocacy, educate ourselves and the public at large and celebrate responsible pet ownership – now with a roadmap provided to us on how to keep moving forward – thank you again!!! 37 surveys were completed of which 49% of our respondents owned a pitbull or pitbull-cross.
