2014 GORGO CAMP - SQUAT & RUN 5K - PART 2 The 5k run began at 8:30 AM on Saturday. Luckily we had perfect weather as there was a hellacious thunderstorm during Saturday night. Before the run, as a group, they performed 100 squats with varying styles depending on fitness level before the run began. GORGO provided a training routine beginning about 10 weeks prior to the CAMP. There was one dad and baby who joined the race. I had the honor of presenting the stylish GORGO medals. But then I was unable to take photos of the presentations. Thanks to GORGO I am able to show the 4 winners! After the race we were treated to Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwiches and fruit. Here is the story behind all the runners wearing colorful tutus. “A San Diego runner and cancer survivor, Monkia Allen, says she was snubbed by a popular womens magazine that used a photo of her wearing a tutu to make fun of the fitness fashion trend. The marathon came right in the middle of chemotherapy”, and she says the Wonder Woman outfit gave her motivation. The reason we were wearing those outfits is because this was my first marathon running with brain cancer,” Allen explained. Her company Glam Runners makes tutus and donates the money to charity. SELF apologized “Of course if tutus make you run with a smile on your face, or with a sense of purpose or community, then they are indeed worth wearing, for any race, the statement read.”
