2014 NPA BRITAIN FINALS. Results and photography by Michael Phillips & Fivos Averkiou. Held for the fifth time at The Civic Theatre in Bedworth, 79 competitors took part in the eleventh annual NPA British Championships, on Sunday October 19th. No doubt about it, this year’s competition was the most hotly contested ever, with some World Class physiques competing for the prestigious NPA British titles. Show sponsorship is so important to the success of any competition, and this year’s Finals had great support from: UDO’S CHOICE (Savant), BULK POWDERS, ULTIMATE SPORTS NUTRITION, OPTIMUM NUTRITION, The Gym Professor (Matt Bembridge), XTREME MUSCLE CLOTHING, and NATURAL MUSCLE BUILD NUTRITION. On behalf of all involved in the NPA I want to say a big THANK YOU to all of the above for their support – they have supported the NPA this year to the tune of thousands of £££££, and hopefully all will be supporting the NPA in 2015. The competition was photographed and filmed as always by Fivos Averkiou and Christopher Lambert, and both do a superb job! Results Masters Over 50’s 1 ROBERT RODNEY – 6 (points) 2 Martin Duckett – 12 3 John Madourie – 16 4 Wesley Clarke – 17 5 Alan Mannix – 29 6 Colin Bennett – 31 7 Lloyd Stewart – 32 8 Charlie McKee -34 9 Paul Thorpe, Robert Cotterell – 35 Resounding victory for Midlands Champion Robert Rodney in the shape of his life! This was, quite simply, the finest Over 50’s class ever seen on a Natural Bodybuilding stage in Great Britain. Juniors Under 21’s 1 TOM MacMILLAN – 5 2 Danny Grogan – 10 3 Harvey Fairburn – 15 4 Troy Pierce – 19 5 Connor Young – 25 6 Jack Matthews – 30 A dominant display from young Yorkshire Champion Tom MacMillan, in only his second ever bodybuilding competition, and he is a power-lifting Champion too! Not surprising, as he had, along with Heavyweight Champion Paul Roberts, the best leg development in the whole competition. Novice Lightweights 1 SAM SLACK – 6 2 Matt Fruci – 12 3 Martin Parker – 14 4 Paul Beattie – 20 5 Frazer Gretton – 25 6 Brady Selkirk – 26 7 Daniel Fillingham – 35 An outstanding class won by the South East Novice Champion Sam Slack, in such fine shape, with amazing muscle thickness and quality, that it is staggering that this class was called a Novice class! Masters Over 40’s 1 ANDREW PALMER – 5 2 Chris Fortune – 11 3 Andy Turner – 14 4 Pete Gawtry – 23 5 Gus Fisher – 24 6 Paul Ullathorne – 31 7 Brian Wellman – 32 8 Darrell James – 35 A conclusive title defence by multiple British & World Champion Andrew Palmer in magnificent shape. Ladies Physique 1 SUZANNE STIRLAND – 6 2 Gaby La Delfa – 9 3 Karen McNulty – 15 4 Kelly Freeman – 20 5 Nicola Mitchell – 25 A great win for Suzanne Stirland 2 weeks after her outstanding win at the prestigious Mike Williams Classic. Novice Middleweights 1 JASON BECKLES – 5 2 Marcus Lamb – 18 3 Ethan Truslove – 19 4 Kieran McKeown – 27 5 Wesley Chirara – 30 6 Jason Sadler – 31 These results have been amended. On the day Callum Cordwell was announced in second place. Unfortunately, Callum has been disqualified as he competed in another show 3 weeks earlier, placing second in a middleweight class; this means he was ineligible to compete as a Novice. This is a genuine error on the part of Callum, who wasn’t aware he would be ineligible, and on the part of the NPA, who didn’t know about his middleweight placing. So placings 3, 4, and 5 move up one. Wesley Chirara, who placed seventh on the day, moves up to fifth, as there was an error on the judging sheets. Jason Sadler stays in sixth place. Jason Beckles was a clear winner on the day; the Yorkshire Novice Champion with a top quality physique, in only his second ever contest! Novice Heavyweights 1 SAM WATT – 5 2 Jason Sloan – 10 3 Paul Cooke – 15 4 Muhammed Sillah – 20 5 Delmore Gumbs – 25 A clean sweep of every available first place in every round for Sam Watt, an incredible physique in only his second competition, following on from his Yorkshire victory; also, all 7 judges had all 5 places in the same order, a rarity at a bodybuilding competition! Ladies Trained Figure 1 DANIELLE CARR – 7 2 Julia Hubbard – 10 3 Helen Thwaites – 13 4 Terezia Borcsok – 22 5 Lucy Hodgson – 26 6 Lauren Marks – 27 7 Lucy Musson – 34 At only 22 years of age, this was a magnificent win for the Yorkshire Champion, Danielle Carr, a Trained Figure competitor to the nth degree! Middleweights Under 78kg 1 TSHALA KABALA – 5 2 Simon Stevens – 11 3 Charlie Timberlake – 19 then 26 4 Mark Spinks – 19 then 27 5 Pradeep Balasubramanian – 21 The multi-titled Champion who is Tshala Kabala, fresh from his Overall Mike Williams Classic win 2 weeks earlier, finally takes the NPA Britain Middleweight crown after being runner-up 3 times, and it was a well deserved victory too, for the man with the tiny waist! Heavyweights 78kg+ 1 PAUL ROBERTS – 7 2 Wayne Robb – 8 3 Daniel Lampard – 15 4 Clifton Morais – 23 5 Daniel Fletcher – 27 6 Stephen Walker – 28 7 Simon Chivers, Thomas Hicks – 35 A titanic battle for the top spot, with a huge Paul Roberts taking the title by one point over the massive Wayne Robb. An outstanding class! Lightweights Under 70kg 1 ANDY HALLAHAN – 6 2 Richard Walker – 9 3 Richard Grattan – 18 4 Dave Oakes – 24 5 Jason Barnett – 26 6 Hani Zahdeh – 27 7 Robert Feesey – 31 8 Alireza Herfedoust – 34 9 George Fereos, Shaun Dolby, Richard McWilliam – 35 The finest Lightweight class ever seen on a Natural Bodybuilding stage in Britain, with a great win for the densely muscular and chiselled physique of Andy Hallahan. The quality in depth for this class was very special, a magnificent class. Overall Novice 1 SAM WATT – 5 2 Jason Beckles – 11 3 Sam Slack – 14 All 7 judges agreeing with the winner, the awesome Sam Watt. Amazing to think that Sam, Jason, and Sam, all made competitive debuts this year with the NPA, and this was only their second competition! Men’s Overall 1 SAM WATT – 6 2 Andrew Palmer – 9 3 Tshala Kabala – 20 4 Paul Roberts – 21 5 Andy Hallahan – 25 6 Robert Rodney – 26 In a line-up of Champions who had World, European, and British titles to their names, the judges went 5 – 2 with the first places, 5 for Sam and 2 for Andrew. Both these two truly outstanding Champions are in their 40’s, both have trained since being teenagers, and both have physiques possessing thick, granite hard muscle development that you only get with years of training. It was a remarkable win for the amazing Sam Watt, as he adds the Overall NPA Britain title to the Overall NPA Yorkshire title he won in May. Well done to Sam, and to all the great Champions in a line-up of the highest quality. Judges: Steve Davies, Carol Streeter, Roy Jones, Peter Clarke, Carl Zambra, Jon Harris, Ian King, and Mark Hesketh. Drug Testing (to WADA standards) and Polygraph testing was done under the supervision of Doping Control Officer Jonathan Bibb, and by Paddy Mulligan and Andrew Armstrong of Forensic Vetting Ltd (forensicvetting) On the day of the competition, a programme raffle / draw was done, and a total of £252 was raised for Help for Heroes and Cancer Research; many thanks to all who contributed to the raising of this amount, either by contributing one of the seven prizes for the draw, for by buying a programme. Be very proud of yourselves! Big congratulations to all the Champions, and huge thanks to all who were there – spectators, sponsors, officials, helpers, and finally, competitors – your continued support will help the NPA grow even bigger in 2015.
