2014 North Dakota Election Analysis =============================== Statewide Tidbits --------------------------- - Dems clearly had no concerted effort to drum up even their own voters. - Ag Commish race not nearly as competitive as believed, Goering winning 57-42. - Julie Fedorchak ended with 3,000 more votes than Brian Kalk, interesting surprise to many. - All the Libertarian candidates broke the 5% threshold and had their best showing ever in ND. Measures ------------------ M1 – Failed 65-35 - District 35 where Oban beat Sitte 56-43, M1 failed 65-35 . - District 41 where Anderson beat Grande and Carlson, ousting Grande, M1 failed 69-31. - Dems were able to successfully bring down incumbents tied directly to M1, but the votes against the two biggest legislative names on the issue were not as strong as on the issue itself within their districts. - did not receive a majority vote in ANY legislative district M2 – Passed 75-25 - only measure to pass due to no opposition - 25% against, likely a good rough indicator of who voted no down the line M3 – Failed 75-25 - did not receive a majority vote in ANY legislative district M4 – Failed 56-43 - did not receive a majority vote in ANY legislative district - closest measure margin M5 – Failed 80-20 - did not receive a majority vote in ANY legislative district - did worse in the west than east, 95% against in Slope, 86% against in Stark, 85% against in Williams - only got 30% support in Grand Forks and Fargo M6 – Failed 62-38 - did not receive a majority vote in ANY legislative district M7 – Failed 59-41 - only received a majority in three districts (7, 38, 40) M8 – Failed 55-45 - only received a majority in five districts (9, 18, 42, 43) *best explanation for M8 failing I heard last night was “parents just want to get the kids out of the house sooner rather than later.”
