2014 ROUND UP I am doing a post twice a day summing up each horses year MALIN HEAD CLOVER (Ali) 15.3hh 12yo Dark Brown Gelding by Amiro out of a Clover Hill mare owned by Daniela Sieff and co with shares still available. Haha well it certainly started rocky!! My first competition with this horse ended up with the worst fall I have ever had. We were only popping round a Novice course to try and get used to each other when we had a serious fall at a very innocuous fence - a number of factors, the course was too small for him and there wasnt enough to keep him on his toes (literally) and the sun was shinning of the white bits on the fence which I believe caused him to misread it resulting in him putting in a last minute little stride that there wasnt room for and somersaulting over the top of it. Luckily he had a soft landing on me so thank god Ali was absolutely fine! I was in hospital for a week and broke quite a few bones which put me out for a little while but I was determined to compete him again before the season was out. We did Dauntsey Open Intermediate where I actually got quite nervous for the SJ and sadly had 3 down - I was going to go one way or the other with my confidence and I remember having to consciously chose which way I was going to let my thoughts go whilst in the start box. Luckily I think I managed to stop the negative thoughts well enough and he cruised round the track going all the straight routes - PHEW. Our next and final event was Aldon (Open Intermediate) where luckily we improved again with a double clear and a 7th placing - I was delighted. Hopefully we will continue improving this way at each competition next year imprinting a solid partnership. If we do I will aim for either Blenheim or Boekelo. Love this horse - he is a little soldier!
