2014 Tee Off for Kids Golf Tournament Sponsored by: Herndon Shell Food Marts/Checkers “Im not much for sitting around and thinking about the past or talking about the past. What does that accomplish? If I can give young people something to think about, like the future, thats a better use of my time.” Arnold Palmer Someone with 62 PGA wins (including 7 majors), in the World Golf Hall of Fame, and nicknamed “The King” in the golfing arena, should know a little bit about both life and golf. A quote from the famous Arnold Palmer is perhaps the best encouragement to kick off the Child Advocacy Center’s 20th annual “Tee Off for Kids” golf tournament. It can also be compared to the work accomplished at the CAC. In addition to their siblings and caregiver, more than 600 children come to the CAC every year and they all have their unique story of abuse and hurt. Each one has a past that perhaps they wish they could forget. Unfortunately, that “past” will never disappear; their abuse will be a part of their hearts forever. However, as new abuse stories unfold and as new “pasts” come out, the staff at the CAC sees an opportunity to move forward and help create an atmosphere where the future can be better for the child and the community. Much like Arnold Palmer’s quote suggests, it is urgent for us to encourage children to think about their futures and what possibilities exist as they learn to manage their emotions, fears, and abuse issues. Child abuse and any wrong action once committed against a child cannot be erased; there is no covering up the scars. Whether the situation is abuse related, or one believes they have been dealt a “bad hand” because of various life circumstances, dwelling on the past gets us nowhere. What we learn from the past and how we choose to move forward is what truly matters. We invite you to join with the CAC during the upcoming tournament which will be held at Highland Oaks on September 18, 2014. David Herndon, Herndon Shell Food Marts/Checkers, is the Presenting Sponsor. Platinum Sponsors, District Attorney Douglas Valeska (Henry/Houston Counties) and District Attorney Kirke Adams (Dale/Geneva Counties), also support the work accomplished at the CAC. We are thankful to have the support of these patrons, but plenty more sponsorship opportunities exist for the 20th annual “Tee Off for Kids tournament”! And, if you’re interested in playing in the area’s largest tournament, hurry and turn in your sponsorship or registration forms as the tournament fills up quickly. We are limited to 216 golfers and in past years we have had a waiting list. If golf is not quite your thing, plan to purchase your Golf Ball Drop ticket! A maximum of 250 golf balls will be placed in a duffle bag and dropped from a helicopter over a hole at the Highlands just prior to tee time. Your $100 ticket purchase gets you a chance to win up to $10,000. This is always an exciting addition to the tournament. It is a great way to get involved and give if you don’t have your own personal set of clubs! Special thanks to the Dale County Sheriff’s Department for providing the helicopter at the tournament! To find out how you can help children look toward the future and not dwell on their abuse-filled past, contact the CAC today at 671-1779 or visit southeastcac.org! Registration forms for the golf tournament and information on the Golf Ball Drop can be found on our website. What a great way to invest your time and resources by helping local children find a little peace by learning to look ahead rather looking back. The CAC staff is “looking forward” to seeing you on the green! Visit southeastcac.org for more information. (Today’s article was written by Jessica Goolsby, CAC Community Outreach Manager).
