2014 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships Recap: Despite some bad luck in some events (if you ride hard enough, crashes, flats, and mechanical failures happen!), KMS Cyclists persevered and made it to the podium 3 times at this years Mountain Bike National Championships! Noah Barrow, Turner Ramsay, and Mikko Aho all went down to Bear Creek Mountain Resort near Trexlertown, PA to compete in the championships. The events were Cross-Country, Short-Track Cross-Country, and Super D (down hill with a little up-hill pedaling). Noah had some bad luck in both mountain bike events he entered... flatting one day, and losing his chain the other. However, he went over to the velodrome on Saturday and won two points races and a scratch race in his first-ever attempt at racing on the track! His bike skills and ability to read a race (and time his attacks) put him at the top of his field in all three races he entered! Turner also had a great weekend, achieving 2 National Championship Mountain Bike podiums! She raced to the third spot on the Short-track Cross Country podium on Thursday, and finished second in the longer Cross Country Championships on Friday! On Sunday, she was the last competitor to go in the timed Super D. They started at 30-second intervals, and she had passed the girls who would later finish first and second when she flatted in the last rock garden, which put her out of contention. Also riding hard and taking no prisoners, Mikko Aho finished 3rd in his Cross-Country Championship race, giving KMS its 3rd podium for the weekend! KMS alum Kenny McNeil also competed this weekend, and rode to an impressive 9th place finish in the hotly contested Cat 1 Senior 19-29 Category!
