2014 YEAR IN REVIEW : Person of the Year - The most popular person of 2014 was definitely a battle between two PM’s. The former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase, took out 29% of the popularity vote while newly elected Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama scooped 23%. - The Roko Tui Dreketi and the Nation’s Opposition Leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa is third with 13.9%, while a Fijian Pentecostal minister and evangelist who is also the founder of the World Christian Mission Fellowship Rev. Suliasi Kurulo is at 9%. - In the ranks of the top five persons of 2014, a 17year old Sigatoka local recently signed model, for New Yorks Trump Model Agency, Ms Phillipa Steele, breaks in at 8%. - Our interpretation of the results following the top five, indicate to us, the power of charismatic, cultural and visible leaders for our young people. The results also show that Religious and Traditional leaders have a part to play in society. The Catholic Archbishop Peter Loy Chong is at 7% and just misses the top 5 persons of 2014 by a slight margin. - Worth mentioning in this segment is that many young people still depend on localized mentoring structures, 5% of the total vote went to a Teacher in Cathedral Secondary School, Mrs Teupola Sogotubu who was nominated for her passion to educate students using the Creative Arts.
