2014 YOUNG WOMEN’S FEMINIST LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME 3rd - 12th November 2014, CALL FOR APPLICATIONS. ***Deadline for receipt of applications is 15th of October 2014*** COURSE OVERVIEW Girls Empowerment Network (GENET), MoVe! A Young Women’s Movement for Justice and Development in partnership with the Open Society Initiative of Southern Africa (OSISA) invites applications to the First National Feminist Leadership course scheduled to take place from the 2nd to the 12th of November2014 The aim of this course is to enhance leadership capacities of young women and enable them to apply feminist thinking frameworks in developing, and influencing strategies, policies and programmes that promote gender equality at personal, community, national and regional levels. Modules covered in the course include the following: • Feminist Theory and History (with emphasis on African feminist history) • Feminist Conceptual Frameworks • Body Politics • Feminism, policy and law • Feminist knowledge production and management • Feminist research practices • Feminist movement-building • Feminist Leadership • Self-mastery and self-leadership The training will be facilitated by feminist scholars and activists. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Applicants who meet the following criteria will be considered: 1. Must be a young woman of between 18 and 35 years of age; 2. Be a citizen and resident of Malawi. 3. Must have attained or is studying towards a qualification from a recognized tertiary institution. 4. Have experience working in an organization or program related to gender equality or women’s rights; 5. English proficiency is critical (the course will be delivered in English only) 6. Demonstrate commitment to participate for the duration of the full course. Regretfully, the course does not accommodate male participants. COURSE DATES and DURATION The course will be offered over a 10-day period in Mangochi, Malawi. The training course is hosted by GENET and MoVe! Commencing on the 3rd -12th of November 2014. Arrival dates is the 2nd of November and departure on the 12th of November respectively. Participants should note that this is an intensive training course with sessions during the whole day. CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION Participants who successfully complete the course and fulfil the requirements which include attendance, active participation and development of an Action Plan to be implemented after the training will receive a certificate of completion from Akina Mama wa Afrika and OSISA. COST AND SPONSORSHIP GENET, MoVe! and OSISA will be fully sponsoring this training course. Sponsorship will cover tuition, course materials, airfare/transport, accommodation, teas and lunches and dinners during the course. APPLICATION PROCEDURES Young women who wish to apply for the training course are required to submit the following: 1. A concept note not more than three pages (single-spaced) addressing the following: a. Describing the problem you seek to solve through training other young women in feminist leadership b. How you plan to implement the stated Action Plan above c. The expected outcome of the Action Plan and how it will benefit other young women from Malawi 2. Completed application form (attached at the end of this document); 3. Commitment form to be completed by employer (attached at the end of this document).
