2014 a year of awards & good audit The year 2014 will go down in history as the year of truly living up to the vision of the ‘home of excellence and opportunities’ for the Capricorn District Municipality. The municipality won multiple accolades in varied performance areas. In April, the district won the gender mainstreaming award for our ccommitment to women empowerment and fighting gender based violence. The municipality obtained position one for excellent practices in Government Category and thus met our the standards set out by Gender Links; and the award has inspired the district to intensify our struggle to change the perception on gender relations and eradicate gender stereotypes which drive the society backward. 1. In October, the district won two Kamoso Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) awards as recognition for having the best functional district forum as well as in environmental and cultural sector. The municipality satisfied all the requirements in performance criteria set out to assess all municipalities in the province. The Municipality was therefore rated the best performer both categories. 2. In November, the district scooped the communicator of the year award as well as the best marketed district at the inaugural Limpopo media and communicators awards as recognition for consistent, sustained and high-impact messages throughout the year. 3. More significantly, in December, Auditor General gave the district municipality unqualified audit finding for the financial year 2013/14, after being satisfied with CDM’s books and annual performance report and compliance with finance management laws and treasury regulations. The Auditor-General has found that CDM’s financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position and the financial performance of the Capricorn District Municipality as at 30 June 2014. The Auditor-General did not identify any significant deficiencies in the Capricorn’s internal controls. Municipal manager Mr Ngoako Molokomme says the awards are a confirmation that the district is on course in implementing the IDP and its service delivery and budget implementation plan (SDBIP). “2014 was a good and a very eventful year for us and we thank the council and mayoral committee for their guidance, oversight and for representing the best interest of our communities; the management and all officials for their dedication and hardwork”, he says.
