2014 ended well for the Caboolture Boxing Club, with 12 boxers going to the State Titles and all of them matched to box. The State Titles gave us 10 Gold and 2 Silver from: Max Smith 10 years old won gold in the 30kg division, he boxed a boy he’s lost to two times previously and pulled out the win at the right time. A good opponent these boys are sure to meet each other in many more titles to come – only a point between them. Jonathon Elimelech 11 years old won gold in the 36kg division against his southpaw opponent who just keeps coming. Jonathon took the fight up to the southpaw with right hand lead, left hook, a brilliant fight. Cameron Little 13 years old won gold by walk over in the 34kg division and had a challenge bout fighting extremely well. 40kg Antonio Futol won his bout by a first round TKO, Antonio at 10 years old is an amazing prospect having 20 wins including against a 14 year old. At the end of year presentations Antonio went on to be awarded the Gavin Nicolson Best Sub-Junior Boxer in Queensland award for 2014. 13 year old Jayde Rowley won gold in the 46kg division outboxing his opponent from Bundaberg. Chloe Halley, 13 years old, topped off a great year with a win in the 50kg schoolgirl division. Looking forward to seeing Chloe at the selection trials. 57kg Junior Misty Halley boxed at her best winning two fights to win the gold medal, Misty will be training hard for the selection trials giving her a chance to compete at the world titles next year. 54kg Schoolboy Bailey Bass, 14 years old, had a tough bout considering it was only his 11th fight he fought with heart and a great chin. Bailey was rewarded with everyone’s respect and a silver medal in his first state titles. Ethan Law, 13 years old, fought in the 57kg Schoolboy division. Ethan was the winner of the 52kg Australian Title this year and fought his long time rival Josh Coumi, both boys fought extremely well and the next few months before the selection trials will allow Ethan to build up to his new weight division. Silver medal for Ethan in a cracker of a fight. Tarron Walker moved up to the 52kg Youth division, winning gold against a taller and older southpaw opponent from The Boxing Shop. Tarron has had a great year getting silver at the Australian Titles, a great performance in winning the youth division at the Golden Gloves against Jeff Fenech trained boxer Brock Jarvis, then a rematch against Martin Snooks his opponent from the Australian Titles reversing that decision with a clear win. Rebecca Hawker fought twice to bring home the Women’s elite 57kg Gold medal for the 2nd year running. Training now towards the selection trials for the Australian Titles. Look out Australia. Mark Gadaleta made his presence felt in the 81kg division with a very nice performance against his opponent from the Sunshine Coast. Mark was ready to move into the gold medal round, however Zach Bacigalupo from Stretton was unable to compete as he damaged his eye winning against his opponent who Mark had already beaten two weeks before. The final would have been a war, Mark took the win in the 81kg senior division. Liam Wilson has had a hectic year, winning overseas against Germany, Uzbekistan, Ireland, India, Serbia and others. Liam wanted to box and was keen to show the damage he could do with one hand but his coach ruled him out saying Liam has nothing to prove. Liam will be back on the world scene soon and was awarded the Queensland Best Youth Boxer Award for 2014. So proud of our club, our coaches and our supportive Mum’s and Dad’s who have helped out all year. Bigger and better things to come – we can’t go backwards, Caboolture Boxing Club Family all the way – Don Tindall
