2014 for Partners For Pets! Well 2014 started off with a bang with the rescue of Ruby. She was found with a severed leg on New Years day. Glad to say that Ruby is doing great-adopted, happy and healthy. There have been many, many more rescues this year-1389 dogs and cats rescued and adopted to new homes. It has been a record year thanks to all the hard work, support and dedication of Partners For Pets volunteers, staff, fosters, adopters, Board, donors and sponsors. Thank you! Some of the more memorable rescues besides Ruby were Ibby, Lola, FeFe, Bamboo, Serta, Congo, Sherbert, Peggy, Tisket and Feldman. Ibby was found with a rubber Band around her leg which meant her leg had to be amputated. Lola had a severely broken pelvis and shocked us all when she had two healthy pups after the pelvis fracture and surgery. That is a mommas love. FeFe survived losing her pups to distemper and made it thru distemper herself. Bamboo was born with undeveloped eyes due to a severe eye infection at birth. Congo was left for two days at the pound after being run over and suffering a broken hip and terrible lacerations. Sherbert was pretty much bald when we got her and and was in terrible pain. Little Peggy stayed spunky even thru a leg amputation. Tisket was found in a trash bag almost dead and was able to trust people again. Feldman was born sick and after weeks of intensive care grew up to be a great little dog. There are many, many more. We have had numerous leg fractures, treated some 70 dogs for heartworms, treated quite a few parvo cases taking care of a pup right now), had countless upper respiratory infections, a few terrible eye infections, treated many sarcoptic and demodex mange cases. It has been a wild year and many happy endings. This has all been done out of our tiny, 1200 square foot shelter. Luckily we are about to have a little more room. This fall we were lucky enough to come across a property that was going to be auctioned. One of our people that was looking for a dog of ours that had jumped the fence found it while looking for the dog. It was perfect for a new shelter and only 2 miles from our tiny one. Our old shelter would fit 4 times in the new one! There was also a house that would give us room for the cats and office and meeting space. With only 2 weeks before the auction everyone scrambled to figure out how to buy the property. We were able to raise the down payment and FCB Bank backed us for a loan. We were the successful bidders!! We hope to move this spring when renovations are complete. That depends on raising funds for the needed updates. We have had many wonderful donations to help and we are sure to secure more so this great project can be accomplished. Yes, We found the dog! Partners For Pets also had many fun fund raisers to help the animals at our shelter-Trivias, Cosmic Bingo, Hawgs For Dogs, Fur Ball, Strutt Your Mutt, 5K, Roadblocks and more. Thanks to all who came and had a good time and helped to raise money for the shelter. Partners For Pets also works with SNIP Alliance, OpSPOT, Bethalto Spay Clinic and Dr. Pam Clary and Mobile Veterinary Services to provide low cost spay/neuter surgeries to low income residents in Madison County. We finished our grant with PetSmart which allowed us to spay/neuter 1272 dogs and cats in Granite City. We also provided almost 300 surgeries with a grant from Madison County rabies control. We can rescue dogs and cats every day from the pound but if we dont so something to stop them from getting to the pound it will never end. Spay/neuter is the only solution. This year could not have been accomplished without all the help from many people. Thank you to our wonderful vet clinics-Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital, Bethalto Spay Clinic and St. Louis Vet Center. Without such great vets we could not do what we do. Everyone does their part to help make this one great group. It takes a lot of team effort to make this happen and I so appreciate everyones help. Thank you for a great year. Best Wishes to everyone for a very Happy and Healthy New Year. Lisa McCormick, Director
