2014 has easily been thee craziest year of my life. Like no cliche. it has been CRAY CRAY. it has been 10 years after moving back to the U.K. from living in Australia and I still remember starting school and feeling like a total alien in the class room not knowing my place on the playground hierarchy. Feeling like a total weirdo, but still dreaming big. One thing was for sure, when I was sad, Id try make someone else happy and as a blessing their happiness became mine. This simple philosophy had its huge ups and downs but by 2014 I had decided I wanted to be a recognised entertainer with a voice for change. Today I look back at how difficult it has been, how much of a journey it has been and how exciting the future actually is! I still call some of my best mates at smallest bit of exciting news, we either end up gasping for air or getting project ready! I can honestly say, thanks to all of your emails, messages, phone calls( clever of you to track down masis who know kakis who know kakas who know mamas to get my number), motifs, fan fiction, artwork, advice, contacts, idea, support and most of all LOVE! I feel like I have finally been recognised and most of all I am en route a journey I have dreamt of. My little idea of making sure that Brown can mean Gujarati people too has really taken flight and trust me it is not landing until Dhokras become the national dish (I joke, extremists dont get happy) but seriously Raas Rebellion is something Ive worked on since my University days, when everyone laughed at me for even making such a crazy suggestion. Today that crazy suggestion has gather over 100000 hits on YouTube and more momentum that the committee and I could handle at one stage. Now with a fantastic team we have HUGE plans, expect new music. Crazy dance numbers and Gujratitude! Believe in your dreams and dont be scared to sing and shout for your under represented community what ever it is alot of the time people are actually interested! Planet Parle has never been only about Gujarati Culture, the fact that I was the single British Entertainer (amongst 4 other non Brits) in a GQ article makes me feel great! Weve really achieved something there - We are not a nation of miserable tea drinkers, the world has room for our quirk and charm! I subtitle almost all of my content, because Although us Gujaratis are happy to learn the more spoken South Asian languages such as Punjabi, Hindi & Urdu we know that our language is a little more unique! Keep Watching and Tame Badhu Sikhi Jaso If I have any advice for 2015 its below: STICK TO IT! Dont give up, keep going, keep doing what you love, live is not a packet of 2 minute noodle - Badhu saalu tayaar na male! Dont write one blog post or make one bit of art and then give up...KEEP GOING! If youre doing what youre doing for attention, then perhaps youre approaching the whole thing wrong. If youre doing it because you love it, continue, dont let anything or anyone get in the way (even I will take that forward and read this back and learn from my own words) Believe in yourself, honestly - Think to yourself, I am *whatever I want to be* keep learning about what it means and how to go about it. at the beginning of 2014 I could barely admit I wanted to entertain and act for the masses. Today its my pride and joy I tell THE WORLD! I make sure its an avid part of my life if people arent interested thats fine, but chances are someone might be! Dont be shy of your positive hobbies. Have direction: Shooting without aiming can get tricky, have huge dreams and make plans and be ready for them to fail, but dreams sadly dont mean much if we dont bring them to live. If they fail ON TO THE NEXT ONE AAAAOJO! OKE BYE! - again keep going, but try and visualize where you want to be, draw maps write things down ASK! Ask for advice, ask for help, ask for tips, ask for contacts. If you dont ask you wont get. Have no sharam ;) Make Sacrifices You will need to commit to your dreams. If youre working hard on something you dont love its stress, if youre working hard on something you love, consider it the fire of your passion burning! Do Things Your Way & Be Original IF YOU CAN! With a lot of things in life, there are no set rules on how to approach them, and even if there are, youd be surprised as to how many successful people have reached them. Learn in a way where you actually learn rather than making notes that look pretty. You might learn better by writing songs about a subject, great! Do just that! Dont try to hard to be different or the same as everyone else, find something in between. And Im not the hugest fan of be yourself, but instead better yourself improve as person! And Finally, Have faith in something other than people, humans are not perfect and never really will be. Put something above yourself, whether you call that God, or Nature or the universe - it truly will help you when you feel like people are letting you down! On the subject of down, as high as the tree grows its roots are film in the ground. Never forget where you come from, and if youre looking down, it should be to help somebody up! At the same time, be grateful for whoever does help and support your dreams or ambitions, they, after all, do come from God, nature or this universe. Never let success get to your mind. Never let failure get to your heart. The world is a reflection of your mind. Thank You again and my best wishes to you if youve set a New Years Resolution - Dont let the trolls divert you from your aims as I know lots of people happily buck buck about nobody sticking to theirs and how its pointless.
