2015: AKPODIETE SEEKS RE-ELECTION, VISIT UGHELLI MONARCH *Renders Account of stewardship As 2015 general elections draw closer, the former member representing Ughelli North 2 Constituency at the Delta state House of Assembly, Hon. (Barr.) Akpodiete Edoja Rufus has paid glowing tributes to the Ughelli Monarch for his immerse support during his tenure as member of Delta State House of Assembly representing Ughelli North 2 Constituency. In a courtesy call on the Ovie of Ughelli, HRM Wilson Ojakovo Ogharisi 111, Hon. Akpodiete said he has come to the palace to intimate the monarch about the October 24th Supreme Court ruling which invalidated his election as member representing Ughelli North 2 Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly. Ajuwe, I have come here with my supporters to formally tell you that on October 24th, 2014, the Supreme Court in his final judgment nullified my election at the Delta State House of Assembly. I have come to thank you for your support during my period of stay in the House as member representing Ughelli North 2 constituency at the Delta state House of Assembly.” He said. Hon Akpodiete also used the opportunity to brief the Monarch of his intention to seek re-election in the 2015 general election to represent Ughelli North 2 constituency in order to continue his good representation to members of his constituency. “However, your Majesty, we have also come to tell you that I will still seek reelection to complete some of the programs and projects we have embarked on Speaking further, Hon. Akpodiete also used the opportunity to render account of his representation which he described as a huge success despite all the tribulations that characterized his stay at the House. As an incumbent I have done what I promised to the people of Ughelli North 11 Constituency as the under listed projects are to our credit. Some of the constituency projects executed during my tenure as House member include; 5 Classroom blocks at Ekiugbo Primary School, 5 classroom block at Uduerhi Primary School, 5 classroom block at Odja Primary School, Uwheru; 8 classroom block at Eserophe Primary School, 4 classroom room at Ediagbon Primary School, Ododegho; 6 classroom block at Oteri Secondary School, Oteri; 5 Classroom block at Agbarho Secondary, school” Continuing further, Akpodiete listed some of his achievements from 2011 till date to also include massive empowerment of 60 women with N200,000 each under women trade programme, empowerment of 100 youths with 50,000 each to establish their own micro businesses, Fencing of Ughelli Main market, Provision of portable water at Iwhreko Community, Provision of portable water at Post Office road Ughelli, Provision of portable water and cassava processing mill at Iwhremaro, provision of two community buses for Iwhreko and Oteri communities, distribution 22 vehicles to empower his constituents, production of over 5,000 notebooks for schools in the constituency, distribution of over 200 school bags to pupils in the constituency all executed under Rufus Akpodiete Edoja Peoples Welfare Scheme, REAPWELS. He also further stated, We have bought 22 vehicles for people that worked with us because we believe that a laborer is worthy of his wage In terms of legislative accomplishments, Akpodiete listed some of his achievements with a promise to enact and sponsor more bills for the wellbeing of members of his constituency and Delta state as a whole. Apart from the projects listed, we have to our credit some bills and motions including the Delta State Paramedics Board and Commercial Vehicle Passengers Welfare Scheme Bill which was passed into law in 2012. In his welcome address, the Ovie of Ughelli, HRM Wilson Ojakovo Ogharisi 111 thanked Hon. Akpodiete for being a good representative. He described him as a good son of the kingdom and prayed for him to be successful again in his electoral quest. High point of the visit was the presentation of Stewardship book to the Royal father by Hon. Akpodiete Rufus Edoja. Present were the Director-General Akpodiete Campaign Organization Mrs Dora Eromafuru, Elder Happy Erhimu, Chief Ufuoma Okpako, Mr. Saturday Ogbore, Mr. Emmanuel Oshevire, Barr. Oghenetega Comrade, Mr. Godspower Esamagu, Mr. Edoyise Felix, National Coordinator of PDP Ideology Crusaders PIC among others. It could be recalled that on October 24, 2014, the Supreme Court, in a ruling by Justice Onnoghen, nullified the election of Hon. Rufus Akpodiete representing Ughelli North constituency 2 at the Delta state House of Assembly and ordered the immediate swearing in of Mr. Jenkins Gwede of the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP while ordering Hon Rufus Akpodiete to, within 90days, refund all the salaries and allowances he collected since 2011 to the coffers of the Delta state government.
