For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. GOOD NEWS We live in the most technologically advanced era that the world has ever known. Electronic media via television, radio, internet, and social media bring us news and information with such mind-boggling speed and efficiency that we are never at a loss as to the major events that are occurring in the world. Now, the field of broadcast journalism is a multibillion dollar industry that has produced a plethora of news reporting agencies such as CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, as well as a host of news reporting celebrities such as Brian Williams and Katie Couric. Journalistic news reporting feeds off of our insatiable appetite to always want to be well-informed and in the know. From early morning to late evening, we are bombarded and inundated with news. And if those times are not convenient for you, there are 24 hour cable and radio stations that can keep you updated on any news that you have missed. Now, even though we live in a world where both good and bad things occur, we all know that news reporting agencies are notorious for ignoring the positive and accentuating the negative. In other words, bad news is paramount. And if we look back on the year 2015, we will find that there were no shortages of it. President Barack Obama’s plan to reform health (The Affordable Care Act or Obamacare) continues to be plagued by technical glitches and consumer confusion. In March, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, carrying 239 passengers and crew, vanished during a routine flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and has yet to be found. In July, another Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, carrying 298 people, was shot down over eastern Ukraine, killing all on board. The deadliest Ebola outbreak occurred in West Africa and took more than 5,000 lives. In September, the first case of the disease in the United States was diagnosed at Texas Presbyterian Hospital. A terrorist group calling itself ISIS, killed thousands and posted barbaric videos of the beheadings of two American journalists. The suicidal death of Robin Williams shocked and devastated many of his adoring fans. The deaths of two black men, Michael Brown and Eric Garner, at the hands of white police officers led to mass protests throughout the nation especially when no indictments were handed down by two separate grand juries. The Peshawar school massacre, which was led by seven Taliban gunmen, was the deadliest terrorist attack in Pakistan and took the lives of 145 students and teachers. Well, I dont know about you, but after hearing bad news all year long, Im ready to hear some GOOD NEWS. And we can read all about it in the Word of God. For in Isaiah 52:7a, we read, How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth GOOD TIDINGS... And in Luke 2:10b,11, we read where the angel states, ...Fear not: for, behold, I bring you GOOD TIDINGS of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. The birth of Jesus Christ is the greatest GOOD NEWS that the world has ever known, because Hes the answer to the greatest BAD NEWS that the world has ever known. Man has a deleterious and deadly spiritual disease called sin. And in Romans 6:23, we read, For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. But God so loved the world that He gave birth to a son to put death that which brings death - sin. So, the GOOD NEWS that you can awake to this December 25, 2014 is, you dont have to be a sinner any more. The GOOD NEWS is, you dont have to be bound anymore! The GOOD NEWS is, you dont have to be addicted anymore! The GOOD NEWS is, you dont have to be depressed any more! The GOOD NEWS is, you dont have to be lonely anymore! The GOOD NEWS is, you dont have to be defeated anymore! The GOOD NEWS is, you dont have to be lost anymore. The GOOD NEWS is, God can make all bad news work together for your good if you would just love and serve Him! Beloved, the bad news might be that you didnt find everything that you wanted wrapped in paper lying under a tree. But the GOOD NEWS is, everything that you will ever need was wrapped in flesh hanging on a tree. For in Acts 10:39, we read, And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and HANGED ON A TREE: And as a result of all the blood that flowed down from Christ and was found under the tree (like gifts found under a Christmas tree), Gods gifts of power, love, peace, joy, victory and more are available to us.
